StackPath Co-Creates Kinetic Edge Alliance to Accelerate Edge Computing Adoption

We are excited to share that StackPath has joined forces with Vapor IO, Federated Wireless, Linode, MobiledgeX, and Packet to form the Kinetic Edge Alliance (KEA).

KEA is comprised of software, hardware, and networking companies (like us) dedicated to expanding and simplifying edge computing. Basically, why StackPath exists in the first place.

We are working together to roll out equipment and services across the top 30 major metro areas in the U.S., which covers nearly 50% of the nation’s population. Working together we’ll promote standards that will make it easier to build edge applications and deploy them to multiple markets. We’ll kick things off in six markets this year: Chicago, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, our home town of Dallas, Los Angeles, and Seattle. What this means for Texans, for example, is those in Houston, Austin, and El Paso will no longer all go through to Dallas to get to the internet. Again, making things faster and more secure.

When we first talked with Vapor IO, the instigator of the Alliance, to discuss working together on the KEA, the synergies were immediately obvious. As our co-founder and CEO, Lance Crosby, said in today’s press release about the news:

StackPath seeks to be the pre-eminent secure edge platform, and that requires becoming as distributed as possible across the globe. The edge today is analogous to the early days of cloud, and education on the technology and proximity is key to mass adoption. Joining the Kinetic Edge Alliance will help with both and allow us TO scale even more quickly and take even more people to the edge.

The KEA Deployment Partners are supported by the Alliance’s Technical Partners – Alef Mobitech, Detecon International, Hitachi Ventara, New Continuum Data Centers, Pluribus Networks, and Seagate Technology – whose unique expertise and technologies will enable us to bring the new edge infrastructure to life.

There is power in numbers and we plan to grow the KEA to hundreds of members and collaborate to connect edge computing stakeholders with end users all around the US and the world. We’ll continue to keep you posted on our efforts as we bring the world to the edge.

Why the edge? Well, if you have read any of our past blogs or followed any of our recent announcements, you know that we are all about the edge. It’s the next evolution of the cloud. We started with datacenters in the middle of nowhere which made sense back then, but now technology is allowing us to get closer to the eyeballs. Not only can this provide faster response times (up to 2.7X faster, in fact), but cheaper and, perhaps most important, safer.
